BUCYRUS — Early morning showers gave way to a beautiful day to help in the celebration of Cooper’s Mill’s Apple Butter Festival. The festival ran from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cooper’s Mill staff, Tammy Habiel (left), Kelsie Fleming (center), and Kathy Barker (right), excited to greet folks.

There were several events and games for young and old, while the son of the original owners of Cooper’s Mill, Don Cooper, made homemade apple butter over an open fire. People were permitted to take turns stirring the butter. Don’s sister, Sharon (Cooper) Sparks, was on hand to sell the butter in an adjacent tent.

“I wish Mom and Dad could have seen the growth and change here at Cooper’s,” Sparks said.

Meanwhile, kids were playing in three large bouncy houses and having their pictures taken in the Cooper’s Mill cutout display. There was corn hole for the adults as well.

Food was available along with fresh apple cider. Apple cider slushies were a big hit on what turned out to be a humid day.

Chuck and Lynn Foust, owners of Libbycakes Stables of Marion, provided horse and pony rides.

Libbycakes Stables of Marion, owned by Chuck and Lynn Foust, had horses for the kids to ride. A female Arabian named Kizzor was available to ride and two miniature horses were on hand, one pulling a cart for riders.

An extremely young but talented band, Common Thread, performed live. The kids were rocking out to tunes recorded before they were born. Guitarist Curtiss Porter, 15, showed his skills as well as drummer McCray Martin, 14, bassist Julia Gutshall, 16, and singer Quaylynn Madden, 17. Persons interested in booking the band are encouraged to visit their Facebook Page, Common Thread.
