BUCYRUS — The General Election is five months away but the staff at the Crawford County Board of Elections already is preparing.

Director Ruth Leuthold said the Ohio Secretary of State Office, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, automatically will be sending out applications for voters to request an absentee ballot in September.

“All registered voters will receive an application in the mail that they will need to fill out and send back to us to request a ballot. They can do that online also,” Leuthold said. “We will begin mailing out ballots on Oct. 6. People can download the application for an absentee ballot from our website and send it in anytime then we will mail them a ballot on Oct. 6.”

She said as things stand, plans are in the works to allow people to vote in person at their local board of elections office during early voting, at their polling place on Nov. 3 or by absentee ballot.

For people who are not yet registered to vote, the deadline is Oct 5.

“They can register at our office or online at the Secretary of State’s website,” Leuthold said.
