BUCYRUS — Voters across Crawford County approved several renewal tax levies, including the renewal levy for the operation of the protection and enforcement side of the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

The 2.75-mills levy is assessed to property owners based on the value of their property and has been renewed twice since being originally approved by voters in 2010, one year after all county budgets were cut due to the economic decline that began in 2007.

“I want to thank the voters for their support to renew this levy that helps the office continue to run as normal,” Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent said.

He said three vacancies due to retirements and a resignation in the road patrol unit of the Sheriff’s Office now can be filled.

“I was holding off to see if the levy was passed before hiring anyone, but we need to get those positions filled,” Kent said.

All townships with renewal levies on the ballot for operating expenses and fire and EMS were passed by voters.
