The results are in and the voters in the Crestline Exempted School District voted against the district’s proposed 0.75-percent income tax levy in both Crawford and Richland counties.
With all of the 40 precincts reporting in Crawford County 738 people voted against the levy while 369 voted for the levy. Those in Richland County turned it down as well 84 to 36.
Crestline Superintendent Noreen Mullins explained that the loss was disappointing, but that the school will continue to look at future options.
“I can’t speak for the whole school board, but I can say that of course it is disappointing that the levy failed, but we will now get together again kind of regroup and look at our options going forward,” Mullins said.
If passed the 0.75 mil levy on earned income would have generated $570,000 annually for the school district.
The Pioneer Joint Vocational School replacement levy fared better. Voters in Crawford County overwhelmingly approved the levy with 6,897 voting for the levy and 4,850 voting against the levy. Likewise, voters in Huron and Richland counties also voted in favor of the levy which when combined with Crawford County was enough to offset Morrow County voters who voted against it, 1,100 to 1,319. Overall, the Pioneer levy passed unofficially by a total count of 19,043 to 14,412.
The 1.7-mil replacement levy combines and replaces two levies that were passed in the 1970s.
