MT. GILEAD—Morrow County Sheriff John Hinton issued the following update on the deadly shooting that took place on Monday:
On February 26, 2023, at approximately 6:57 PM, the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting at the Shell Gas Station at State Route 61 and Interstate 71.
During the course of the investigation, it was learned that the alleged suspect, who was identified as Keith Moser of Columbus, OH, allegedly attempted to steal a car on the northbound off-ramp of SR 61 and I-71, resulting in shots being fired at the car.
The alleged suspect then went to the Shell Gas Station and allegedly attempted to steal a minivan that was pumping gas. Shots were fired, and a female victim was struck. The female victim was identified as Meagan Kennedy Stanford of Greenville, SC. Ms. Kennedy Stanford succumbed to her injuries on the scene.
The alleged suspect then turned and fired at a U-Haul van that was driven by a male occupant. The male occupant was able to return fire. A fight ensued involving multiple people. The alleged suspect died on the scene of apparent gunshot wounds.
This matter remains under investigation by the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office. Additional information may be released after the completion of the investigation and a review by the Morrow County Prosecutors Office.
