BUCYRUS — Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1078 are excited to host the 2018 edition of the Remembering Our Heroes event. The event marks the third time the post has hosted the celebration.
Activities for the event begin at 11 a.m., Aug. 18, the third day of the Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival.
The celebration will feature the Ohio State University Alumni Band playing the military medley, guest speakers and a presentation of the colors. The event is expected to last approximately one hour.
Tents will be in place at the post, allowing the event to occur rain or shine.
Post No. 1078 Axillary President Lori Charlton said local businesses were asked to sponsor or donate money to be placed in a fund to serve local veterans and the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky. She said the VFW is self-supporting and does not use the funds to operate.
All local veterans and their families are invited to attend.
A free lunch will be offered for the veterans after the ceremony.
Activities will be happening at the VFW during the entire Bratwurst Fest. A beer garden, live music, food, raffles and family activities will be featured by the veterans organization for the duration of the festival.
Volunteers for the Saturday morning event are asked to arrive at 8:30 a.m.
