In what will likely be her only contest for re-election to the Crawford County Commissioner’s seat she currently holds, Jenny Vermillion easily won a three-way race in the Republican Primary.

Vermillion totaled 1,089 votes to 867 for Michael Schiefer and 371 for Randy Monk. Vermillion is currently in her first term and discusses coming back for a second.

“It’s quite an honor to know they trust me enough to send me back for another four years,” Vermillion said. “I will do my dead-level best to keep doing the job I was doing and hopefully everybody will be happy with it and I can continue on this journey.”

Although Tuesday’s primary victory only officially put Vermillion on the November ballot, no one else has filed to run against her in the General Election.

In her fist term Vermillion was appointed by Gov. John Kasich to the Ohio Public Defenders Commission. She also testified to the State Senate regarding a proposal to drug-test welfare recipients.

Vermillion discussed what she sees as the biggest challenges in her second term.

“Well fortunately our powers are very limited. The problems that our county faces are, as everyone knows is drugs, jobs – they all go hand in hand,” Vermillion said. “What we can do from my position as Commissioner is solicit help from the state, make our problems known to them, and get the attention that we need.”
