Getting in shape always seems to be at the top of the list for New Year’s resolutions and now there is a way to do it that helps out you, your favorite canine, and the Humane Society Serving Crawford County.
The local humane society has joined WoofTrax, a program that acts as a fundraising tool for animal shelters and rescues. Smartphone users can download the Walk for a Dog mobile app, which keeps track of your walk. When preparing for a walk, users simply press the “Start Walking for . . .” button and start their walk. When the walk is done, the selected shelter or rescue is credited.
WoofTrax sends donations, which are funded by sponsorship, advertising, and investors, to participating shelters and rescues typically two times per year. Donations are calculated based on the number of people walking for each shelter, the number of times walked, and how far walks are over time.
This past June WoofTrax sent out donations to over 600 shelters involved in the program for walks that occurred between January and April. Currently, more than 4,000 shelters and rescues participate in the WoofTrax fundraising efforts.
To help support the Humane Society Serving Crawford County, download WoofTrax’s Walk for a Dog smartphone app and select Crawford County Humane Society under the setup tab (iPhone users) or the settings menu (Android users).
