CRAWFORD COUNTY, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Crawford Park District has an exciting lineup of nature events at Lowe-Volk Park this November. From owls to bird banding and exploring animal tracks, there’s something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
On Friday, November 8, at 6:30 PM, the spotlight will be on Ohio’s smallest owl, the Northern Saw-whet. Known for their secretive and nocturnal nature, these owls breed primarily in northern arboreal forests but occasionally venture south during the fall and winter. Bird bander Bob Placier will return with his mist nets to gather daata on these diminutive owls. The evening will start with a PowerPoint presentation, followed by checks of the mist nets in the hopes of catching a few of these nocturnal flyers. Attendees can enjoy a campfire between net checks. Remember to dress for the weather and bring a flashlight. Lowe-Volk Park is located 3 miles north of US Route 30. The following day, Saturday, November 9, from 8 AM to 12 PM, the Crawford Park District will host Fall Bird Banding. This activity provides insight into bird populations that remain or come to Crawford County for the fall and winter months. Bob Placier will have his nets open to see which feathered friends are around this time of year. This event promises fun for all ages.

On Tuesday, November 12, at 5 PM, children ages 0-5 are invited to join the Little Explorers program at Lowe-Volk Park. This interactive session focuses on identifying different animal prints and stimulating children’s senses while developing fine motor skills. Participants will learn to distinguish between the paw prints of cats and dogs, explore the size of a bear paw, and even stamp some favorite prints. It’s a wonderful way to engage young children with nature.
