While no garages were literally for sale in New Washington Friday, numerous garages were open for business as the village held their annual Community Garage Sale.
Beginning yesterday, and carrying over to today good deals on used items were sought out as one person’s no longer wanted items became others’ treasures.
Brothers James Panuto and Dominic Urbanik were out taking in the sales with their grandmother Karen Hines. Panuto was excited about the garage sales referring to it as “Black Friday of New Washington.”
“I found a donkey, a stick a phone case, and Superman,” Panuto said.
Urbanik was happy with his purchase of a stuffed bear.
“I purchased this bear because it had 2008 on its foot, and that was the year I was born,” Urbanik said.
Mary Levans had a late start to the day, but that didn’t stop here from making a few finds.
“Today is beautiful, and they always have nice garage sales, and everyone is real friendly,” Levans said.
Paige Caudill had numerous items for sale from kitchen supplies to used kids clothes.
“We get a lot of people looking for cheaper kids’ clothes and kitchen housewares have been selling really well,” Caudill said.
For Bob and Marilyn Kanney, what doesn’t sell at their garage sale will still be put to use.
“We like to get rid of things, what we don’t sell we will give to Goodwill,” Marilyn said.
Carrie McMichael along with her sister Amanda Mahon, and their mother Mary Siesel were closing up their garage sale for the evening.
“We did really well, I told her (Mary) I can’t believe how much stuff we sold and it still looks like we still have a lot to sell,” McMichael said.
Jeff Stacklin was closing out his garage sale for the day with his family. Stacklin was pleased with how the first day of sales went.
“We got rid of a lot of stuff,” Stacklin said. “Everything from old knives to guns to baby clothes, we had farm toys we sold.”
The New Washington Community Garage Sale continues today with many of the sales lasting into the evening.
