UPPER SANDUSKY — Heavy rains and flooding have caused the closure of a U.S. highway Tuesday morning.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation District 1 Public Information Office, U.S. 30 eastbound is closed east of Upper Sandusky due to damage to the road from flooding caused by rainfall overnight.

The right lane of the highway between mile markers 19 and 20 east of the U.S. 23 south and U.S. 30 east split has started to washout from high waters. The left lane already was closed due to road repairs being made.

ODOT is on the scene accessing the situation. A representative of the ODOT PI office said the construction contractor is being contacted to see if the left lane may be opened, but currently the entire eastbound roadway remains closed. Motorists should avoid the area and find and alternative route.

More information will be released as it is shared by ODOT on a possible reopening time.
