Bucyrus – The Bucyrus Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Monday, January 11, 2021 that occurred at approximately at 7:49 PM, on US Route 23 at the intersection of County Road 44, in Salem Township.
Salih J. Husain age 29 of Hilliard, Ohio was driving a Blue 2012 Volvo Semi Truck with a white box trailer. He was attempting to turn left from County Road 44 to US Route 23 South. Roger S. Schlack, age 67, of Carey, Ohio was operating a Black 2015 Ford F-150 and was traveling North on US Route 23.
While the Semi was turning left, the trailer became disconnected from the power unit and came to rest across the US Route 23 Northbound lanes. Mr. Schlack struck the Semi-trailer that was across the roadway. Mr. Schlack was confirmed deceased at the scene. The passenger, Lana Schlack age 60 of Carey, Ohio was flown to Cleveland Metro Health Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Mr. and Mrs. Schlack were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Upper Sandusky Fire and EMS, Wyandot County Sheriff Office, and The Ohio Department of Transportation.
The crash remains under investigation.
