The ever-present danger of heroin use was very clear in Bucyrus on Wednesday evening when two men were taken to the hospital for treatment for overdosing on the drug.

The first call for assistance came in at 5:52 in the evening. Police and EMS responded to the 300 block of Songer Avenue to come to the aid of a 52-year-old man. According to a Bucyrus Police Department dispatcher, the man was transported to the hospital emergency room.

A second man, 54 years of age, was taken to the hospital ER by EMS for treatment as a result of an overdose from an area near the hospital. Police were called at 7:07and the man was placed in ICU.

That case remains under investigation.
