Two people who avoided prison the first time in Crawford County Common Pleas Court weren’t nearly as fortunate the second time around.
“You are more concerned about living a drug, crime-filled life then you are about straightening your life out…now the only thing I can do is put you in prison,” Common Pleas court Judge Sean Leuthold told Sasha Shoemaker. “But if I leave you running around out here you are going to get yourself in more trouble. You can continue down a path of addiction and you could end up dead. So I don’t feel the slightest bit of compunction about putting you in prison.
“Right now I think that’s the best thing for you, it might be the only way to save you. So use this time wisely, get your head on straight.”
Shoemaker, 22, appeared in Common Pleas Court for a probation violation. Back on January 21 of this year she was found guilty of forgery, and fourth-degree felony theft. She was then sentenced to five years of probation as well as paying costs. Less than six months later she was charged with possession of drugs, violating her probation.
The Bucyrus resident admitted to her violation of probation. Her sentence for the violation was 36 months in prison. She was also sentenced with an additional 12 months in prison for possession of drugs. The two terms are to be served concurrently for a total of 36 months.
Shoemaker wasn’t the only one sentenced to prison Monday afternoon. Forty-two-year-old Gary Fox of Galion was sentenced to eight months in prison for probation violation. On April 11, 2013, Fox was originally found guilty of possession of drugs and was sentenced to three years of probation plus costs and fines.
One person did get out of prison Monday. Forty-three-year-old Robert Bowersock of Mansfield was found guilty of aggravated burglary, a first degree felony, on March 25, 2013. He was then sentenced to four years in prison plus restitution. Bowersock was granted judicial release with a year remaining on his prison sentence and placed on five years of community control.
Thirty-eight-year-old Sabrina Costello of Bucyrus had her initial hearing Monday afternoon for violation of community control. Bond was issued at $100,000 and a date for a final hearing will be set.
Charles David Hall, Jr., of Kentucky waived extradition to Kentucky for outstanding child support. Once he comes back to Ohio, Hall will serve community control. He was sentenced to five years of community control here just last week for unpaid child support.
