MANSFIELD — Mansfield Police responded to a “shots fired” call early Sunday morning around 12:35 am, in the area of 230 South Diamond Street. Officers on patrol that night had heard numerous gunshots coming from the area prior to being dispatched to the scene. The 911 call center had also received many calls about shots being fired in that area.
As officers approached the area they stopped a vehicle matching the description of one of the vehicles fleeing the scene of the shooting. Inside the vehicle they found a 26-year-old black male passenger suffering from at least two gunshot wounds. A second victim was found in the front yard of 27 Ford Avenue in Mansfield. The victim was bleeding profusely from his leg. Both victims were transported to a local hospital and are expected to survive.
Officers recovered two handguns in a different location on the street and numerous bullet casings on Ford Avenue and Schmidt Court. Additional bullet casings and blood were found at 29 Ford Avenue. The residence was checked with negative results. Two individuals in the Ford Avenue home were detained and later released.
During the investigation and search warrant, a third handgun was recovered inside the Ford Avenue residence, along with blood evidence and other firearm-related items.
