While many take the July Fourth holiday and use it as a time to celebrate the nation’s birth with family and friends, unfortunately crime does not. It is in that regard that those who try to stop crime won’t take a holiday either.
Such was the case with the Bucyrus Police Department who arrested two over the holiday.
Bucyrus Resident Mark R. Ely, 53, was arrested in the area of Prospect and Aurora Streets at 5:18 PM Thursday, and charged with disorderly conduct by intoxication. He was taken to the Crawford County Justice Center.
Brittany M. Witten, 23, of Bucyrus was arrested at 8:49 PM in the 900 block of Wingert St. and arrested on a Crawford County warrant. She was taken to the Crawford County Justice Center.
Thirteen incidents of fireworks being set off were also reported. Dispatcher Shawn Zeigler mentioned, “This number is common for July third, and fourth.”
Zeigler continued, “An officer will check the area the report came from, and if the people who were lighting them off are found, usually they are given a verbal warning; if the people who set the fireworks off are caught doing it again then a citation is issued.”
