FREMONT, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—A tragic incident on Sunday in Fremont resulted in the deaths of two adults and the disappearance of a 5-year-old child after multiple individuals were struck by a train.
Authorities reported that the victims are believed to be a family from Indiana who were in the area for a fishing trip.
Fremont Mayor Danny Sanchez addressed reporters during a press conference on Sunday night, confirming the identities of the deceased as a 58-year-old woman and her 38-year-old daughter.
A 1-year-old infant was transported to a local hospital for treatment, although the child’s condition remains unclear. Meanwhile, emergency responders are actively searching the Sandusky River for the missing 5-year-old, who has not yet been located.
Sanchez expressed his condolences, stating, “This is a very, very unfortunate tragedy that has hit our community today.”
The Fremont Police Department issued a statement indicating that emergency crews were working at the scene near the Miles Newton Bridge, which has since been closed to the public.
Emergency personnel arrived at the site around 7:30 p.m. EDT. The train involved in the incident resumed operations approximately three and a half hours later, at approximately 11:00 p.m.
