The Board of Trustees of North Central State College voted unanimously at their March 25, 2015 meeting to approve a new tiered tuition plan beginning with summer 2015 semester. In the plan, tuition will increase to $165 per credit hour for students taking one to eleven credit hours each term. For any student taking 12 -15 credit hours, with 12 credit hours or more per semester being “full-time”, the cost will be a flat rate of $1,830.60.

So for students taking four, 3-hour courses, their tuition will be $1,830.60; and they could take another 3-hour class absolutely free. Charges for books, lab fees, and other expenses will still apply. A student taking two, 4-hour and two, 3-hour courses would also pay $1,830.60. Full-time students taking classes for the entire year will be charged $3,661.20 ($1,830.60 times 2) for classes taken in Fall and Spring Semesters. This amount can be fully satisfied for students who receive 100% Pell funding, which currently provides $5,775.00. Affordability is further enhanced for hundreds of students who receive grants and scholarships from NC State institutionally, from the NC State Foundation, and from many outside sources.

North Central State College remains one of the most affordable institutions in the region. This change will allow students to earn more credit for less money than before.

For a student who takes more than 15 credit hours, the cost will be charged at the flat rate of $1,830.60 plus $165.00 for each credit hour above 15 credit hours.

In order to encourage student success and completion, new students, and students returning to college after a 12-month absence, who enroll full-time for Fall 2015 will be eligible for a tuition guarantee for the next four years. Tuition rates for these students will remain frozen, as long as they continue to pursue their degree and maintain full-time enrollment. Students accepting the Tuition Guarantee will be asked to sign an agreement which explains these guidelines.
