The Figure 8 Truck Races took over the infield of the grandstands at the 2015 edition of the Crawford County Fair Monday night, and it was the truck driver who was flipped by a car last year who had the last laugh.

One of the highlights from last year’s Figure 8 truck races was when a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant driven by Dylan Morgan flipped a 1985 silver Ford Ranger driven by Alex Fetter onto its side. This year that same Ranger was back in the races with a new paint job, and a much better finish as Fetter went on to claim first place in the small truck division.

Fetter explained that even with the win, he is looking onward to the next race.

“It feels pretty good to take first now and then do a little bit of work to the truck, and on to Knox County for next Monday, but it is always just a blast out here it’s just a stress reliever,” Fetter said.

Featuring a black and yellow color scheme for the truck Fetter explained how his truck named “The Ticked Off Bumble Bee” was changed from its original silver color.

“I really didn’t think about the color scheme, I just used some black and yellow paint lying around the garage,” Fetter said of the black and yellow paint scheme.

This year a smaller field turned out for the Figure 8 Truck Races with only one heat of each division prior to the finals. Due to two cars in each class not able to finish the first round of races both classes featured just four drivers in each race.

truck races 3Racing in his seventh year overall and his third year at the county fair, Greg Cantor took first place with his Ford F250 in the Large Class. Cantor said that experience doesn’t really help when it comes to racing in the 8 pattern.

“Experience don’t help nothing because there’s too many people running into you on purpose, the track is rough, and you just take what you can get.” Cantor said.

Cantor finished by saying his favorite part about the Figure 8 races is when he wins.
