BUCYRUS – According to a study by The Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, nearly one million job openings, or 60% of all jobs in Ohio, require training beyond high school. Nursing careers remain at the top of the list. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) have a median salary of $44,240 and a job growth outlook of 11% projected through 2028.

North Central State College offers a practical nursing certificate right here in Bucyrus through the Crawford Success Center (CSC). In 2018, the CSC added a practical nursing lab funded through local companies and donations. Now Crawford County residents may receive classroom instruction and hands-on clinical training close to home.

Spring semester, which begins January 11, is critical for LPN applicants. Prerequisite courses in science, English and math must be complete in order to be admitted to the fall nursing sequence. These courses are available in person or online, and students receive computer access and personal assistance at the Crawford Success Center. The prerequisite courses, often called “core”courses, are required for many other NCSC programs and most will transfer to other colleges and universities too.

The Crawford Success Center also offers you college support services for all majors. Staff members assist in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is required for federal financial aid, as well as additional grants and scholarships. Recently, NC State introduced new local scholarships for Crawford County residents enrolling in the LPN program. There are also a number of other scholarships available for students pursuing short-term certificates like Practical Nursing.
