August typically means three things: the Bratwurst Festival, the kids go back to school, and National Night Out parties. It’s still not time to go back to school and the Bratwurst Festival isn’t until next week, but National Night Out is Tuesday evening.
Throughout the country, including Crawford County communities, there will be neighborhood parties. Bucyrus Police Chief David Koepke explains what the purpose is behind the annual event. “Well it’s thousands of communities across the United States getting together to send a message of anti-crime, and awareness of crime, strengthening community spirit,” Koepke said, “brining police and community partnerships together to improve relations and work together towards a better community.”
National Night Out began in 1984. Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent states that while the one night out is certainly not an answer to crime, drugs and violence; it does represent the kind of spirit, energy and determination that is helping to make a difference in neighborhoods and Crawford County as a whole. This one night can include a variety of events such as cookouts, block parties, kid parades, and exhibits.
Make sure and check Crawford County Now’s photo page late Tuesday and during the day Wednesday for a gallery of the National Night Out parties here.
