The woman who is largely responsible for the parade in honor of Santa will finally have her own day to be honored. And it just happens to fall on her 70th birthday.
Mayor Roger Moore has proclaimed Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 as Carolyn Ann Smith Day.
Smith has been the director of the Bucyrus Santa Parade for the past eight years and, under her tutelage, it has grown every year to turn into one of the community’s most anticipated and largest event.
“If you want a job done, Carolyn Ann is your go to,” the proclamation states. “Don’t even try to tell her she can’t, it is not in her dictionary. If the task is not in her realm, she will find someone to rise to the occasion. Her enthusiasm for the community and faithful work and devotion is a blessing to Bucyrus. Carolyn Ann is a believer.”
Smith was born on Dec. 17, 1943 in Marion, Ohio to Charles Frederick Burrey and Ann Jane (Hawk) Burrey. She will be celebrating her 70th birthday this year.
Smith is an active member of the Bucyrus Church of God. She enjoys participating in her church and spending time with her family, reading, doing crafts, making flower arrangements and going to garage sales. Her family includes three children, daughter Tami (Dan) Risner, daughter Dawn Zarcone (fiancé Fred Buckner), and son Kris (Wendy) Holdcraft. Her grandchildren are Olivia and Grant Risner; Katie Ann, Joshua, Jeremy and Kyle Zarcone, and Brittany Holdcraft as well as her great-grandchildren Aden, Braden and Caden Holmes and Aalyah Zarcone and Izabella Zarcone.
