A house fire Friday morning at 102 Water Street in Tiro took the lives of a father and his 2-year-old daughter. Thirty-nine year-old Mark Blunt was found deceased inside the two-story home. Two-year-old MacKenzie Blunt was transported to Ohio Health Med-Central Hospital in Shelby with severe burns and declared deceased there.
Mark Blunt was declared deceased at the scene by Crawford County Assistant Coroner Dr. Grant Hope.
Both MacKenzie and her father were found by firefighters in a downstairs bedroom. A second child, 7-year-old Luke Blunt, escaped from the second story of the home with the help of neighbors. Luke was also taken to the Shelby hospital by a family member for treatment of minor injuries.
According to a Tiro-Auburn Fire Department firefighter, first responders received the call at approximately 8 o’clock Friday morning and found the fire burning in a first floor living room where it is thought to have started. There was smoke damage throughout the house.
An investigator with the State Fire Marshal’s office was on the scene this morning. He and the Tiro-Auburn Fire Department are investigating the fire. The Tiro-Auburn Fire Department was aided by firefighters from New Washington, Plymouth and Liberty Township fought the fire.
