BUCYRUS — The Tiro-Auburn Volunteer Fire Department was among the departments in the county to receiving funding from the Aladdin Shriners to purchase new equipment.
The Aladdin Shriners, through the Bucyrus Shrine Club, awarded Tiro-Auburn VFD a $1,000 grant to purchase a FLIR K2 Thermal Imaging Camera.
“It’s a very important piece of equipment to have on hand,” Tiro-Auburn VFD Chief Tim Hamman said. “It helps in finding hotspots and locating missing people.”
Hamman said the camera is a handheld machine that is as easy to use as, “point and look.”
“The camera uses heat to form shapes such as a silhouette of a person,” Hamman said. “In a fire, the fire would appear as a darker color and a person would appear as lighter colors due to being a lower temperature.”
He said the equipment helps the department better serve the community.
“We have a tax levy, but any extra funding to get equipment helps out above and beyond,” Hamman said.
