BUCYRUS—Methamphetamines are rearing their ugly heads in Crawford County again. The good news is that the two defendants that were caught with large quantities of the drugs, were arraigned in a Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Thursday.

Brandy Evans, 43, of Upper Sandusky, was indicted by the Crawford County Grand Jury on one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a felony of the second degree punishable with up to 8 years in prison, one count of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, a felony of the fourth degree punishable with up to 18 months in prison and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia a misdemeanor punishable with up to 30 days in jail.

According to Assistant Prosecutor Ryan Hoovler, the charges resulted from a traffic stop. Evans admitted to the drugs. She also had a loaded semi-automatic gun in view.

Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold entered a not guilty plea on Evans’ behalf.

He set bond at $65,000.00 and scheduled a pretrial with attorney Jerry Thompson to represent her.

Robert Allen Simmons, 19, of Upper Sandusky, was indicted on one count of possession of methamphetamines, a felony of the second degree punishable with up to 8 years in prison, and one count of possession of drugs paraphernalia, a misdemeanor punishable with up to 30 days in jail.

Judge Leuthold entered a not guilty plea on Simmons’ behalf and appointed attorney Tom Nicholson to represent him. Bond was set at $65,000.00.

Alendander Chatman, 25, of Upper Sandusky, was indicted on one count of aggravated possession of methamphetamines, a felony of the second degree punishable with up to 8 years in prison, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor punishable with up to 30 days in jail.

According to allegations, Chatman was stopped for a traffic violation on Galion. A search of the vehicle revealed a large amount of drugs. Chatman indicated that he and his passengers were looking to trade the methamphetamines for marijuana. All occupants of the car pointed guilt at each other. Judge Leuthold entered a not guilty plea on Chatman’s behalf. Attorney Joel Spitzer was appointed to represent him. Due to Chatman’s past criminal history. Leuthold set bond at $100,000.00. Leuthold ordered the matter be set for a pretrial.

In other court news,

Noah Thornton, 33, of Bucyrus, was indicted on one count of assault, a felony of the fifth degree punishable with up to 12 months in prison.

According to Assistant Prosecutor Ryan Hoovler, Thornton ran from police during a pursuit, which resulted in this assault indictment. Hoovler went on to tell the court that he intends to present further charges to an upcoming grand jury of assault. According to Hoovler, Thornton further resisted when he arrived at the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department while being booked into jail. He kicked and injured a correction officer.

Judge Leuthold entered a not-guilty plea on Thornton’s behalf. Attorney Neil was appointed to represent him.

Judge Leuthold set a combined bond on all charges of $50,000.00.
