After two straight days of weather that was better suited for waterfowl, the clouds parted for a little while on Saturday as Galion celebrated the final day for Oktoberfest.
For the first time in this year’s installment of the annual Oktoberfest, music was being played from the stages after two straight rain-outs. Not only was the air filled with the sounds of live music, but also the squeals of glee from children as they rode the carnival rides, which had sat largely dormant the previous two days.
Watching her kids as they rode rides and played games, Crystal Ebner explained what brought them out to the Oktoberfest.
“We come every year with the kids,” Ebner said. “We enjoy the rides, the games and of course the food, we love the food.”
After moving to Galion in April, Jean Elliot along with her granddaughter Hailey Brayden descended upon the city’s Oktoberfest for celebration and fun.
“She is my granddaughter, and it is her birthday, so we were just out celebrating.”
“I have enjoyed playing the skeet ball the most,”
Brayden said.
As her two daughters Lilly and Elaina slid down the slide, Stephanie Elder explained why her family along with friend Connie Robinson came out to the Oktoberfest.
“Born and raised here in Galion. We come every year, the girls love it and enjoy it,” Elder said.
Elder expounded upon what she enjoys the most from the annual festival.
“Community coming together, bringing the people out and supporting the community, watching the girls, the rides, and just letting them have a good time,” Elder added.
Music was spread across three stages Saturday, with Standard Time kicking off the entertainment on the Main Stage at 1 p.m., Dick Macket and the John Vermeulen Octet followed at 3 performing big band and swing, Erik Gimbel Orchestra followed at 5, with Trust headlining at 8:30 p.m.
