The Community Foundation for Crawford County is holding its annual Match Day fundraiser in conjunction with #GivingTuesday. The first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday harnesses the power of social media to create a national movement around the holidays dedicated to giving, just as Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days synonymous with holiday shopping. During only its second year in 2013, #GivingTuesday reached over two billion individuals on Twitter and 300 million on Facebook.

“This year we are holding our annual Match Day on #GivingTuesday,” explained Lisa Workman, the Foundation’s President. “Since so much of the success of #GivingTuesday revolves around using social media to raise funds, we are inviting Crawford County to join our virtual party! On December 2nd, we’d like to see everyone “take 10 to send 10,” or take 10 minutes to email/text/facebook at least 10 solicitation messages to their friends and contacts, asking for donations to the foundation at cfcrawford.org. And on that date, our foundation’s Board has agreed to match up to $30,000 to the agencies and schools for whom the dollars are being raised!”

Workman noted the simplicity and ease of participating. “We are all in touch with old friends and classmates who are from Crawford County but don’t reside here anymore. What better potential pool of donors for us all to ask to give back to Crawford County, the community that raised them?” A sample solicitation letter can be downloaded from the foundation’s website and, after any edits, passed on to contacts or posted on Facebook pages. In addition to social media, collection sites will be set up all day at the Foundation’s office at 254 E. Mansfield St. in Bucyrus, and from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the fire stations in New Washington, Bucyrus, Galion and Crestline. “The fire chief whose city raises the most money will be doused with a bucket of water, putting out the fire after we ignite Crawford County with Match Day!” Workman added that any checks need to be dated December 2nd in order to count towards Match Day.

This past year, The Community Foundation for Crawford County contributed some $450,000 in grants and scholarships right here in Crawford County. From the playscapes where children can laugh and play, to our area’s historical societies, to the murals in downtown Bucyrus, the many projects the Foundation helps fund enrich the lives of us all.
We all participate in Black Friday and Cyber Monday; now let’s help The Community Foundation for Crawford County get fired up on Match Day/Giving Tuesday! Share on social media! Join our virtual party!
