BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Crawford County Community Concert Association is set to launch its 2024-2025 season with a performance by The Buckinghams on Monday, October 14. The concert will feature original members Carl Giammarese and Nick Fortuna, along with their full band, performing the hits that have captivated audiences for decades.
From their Chicago roots to appearances on “The Ed Sullivan Show” and performances at the White House, The Buckinghams have remained a beloved fixture in American music. Their enduring popularity is a testament to the timeless appeal of their music.
The band’s signature sound, marked by the opening horn notes of their #1 hit “Kind of a Drag,” has become synonymous with the Chicago horn sound. The Buckinghams recorded 12 singles, and their 13-week stint on WGN-TV’s “All Time Hits” bolstered their Midwest reputation. The release of “Kind of a Drag” by USA Records catapulted the band to national fame, reaching #1 on the charts. In 1967, Cash Box Magazine named them “The Most Promising Vocal Group in America.”
Columbia Records soon offered national distribution, leading to a series of hits including “Don’t You Care,” “Hey Baby, They’re Playing Our Song,” “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” and “Susan.” The Buckinghams became a staple on television, appearing on shows like “The Ed Sullivan Show,” “The Smothers’ Brothers Comedy Show,” “The Jerry Lewis Show,” “The Joey Bishop Show,” and “American Bandstand.”

The band has played to capacity crowds across the country, sharing stages with legendary acts such as Gene Pitney, The Beach Boys, Sonny & Cher, Neil Diamond, America, The Hollies, The Kinks, The Yardbirds, and The Who.
The Buckinghams’ concert will take place at 7:00 PM on Monday, October 14, at the Bucyrus Elementary School Auditorium, located at 245 Woodlawn Ave., Bucyrus. Doors will open at 6:30 PM.
Tickets for this show are still available, as are season tickets for all five shows in the series, which also include “Yesterday & Today, The Interactive Beatles Experience,” “Jingle Bell Swing with Helen Welch” and a 16-piece orchestra, “The Wonder Bread Years” starring Pat Hazell, and “The Appalachian Road Show.”
