BUCYRUS—Surrounding humane shelters are reporting receiving large amounts of cash and supplies as a result of the recent Betty White Challenge. White, a beloved actress and animal lover who advocated on behalf of all animals, died on December 31st, just days before her 100th birthday.
An internet challenge was issued asking everyone to donate $5 to their local shelter on January 17th on what would have been White’s 100th birthday.

According to Adoption Coordinator, Riley Bails of the Marion County Humane Society, her shelter had an all-day birthday party featuring their own “ Golden Girl” Bella. She is the oldest dog at the shelter. Bella is an eight-year-old Akita still searching for her permanent home.
As of Wednesday, the shelter had received in excess of $9,000.00 and many supplies donated in honor of White.
According to the Crawford County Humane Society, there is not a final count of monetary donations, but many supplies were received. Many donors have donated in excess of $1000.00 to honor White. They will post the final tally on their Facebook page.
Surrounding counties, including the Wyandot County Humane Society, report $1200.00 donated and still counting, and Richland County reports $9000.00 and still counting in donations. The Morrow County Humane Society could not be reached for comment.
