What started out as a simple April Fool’s Day prank had a very happy ending – at least, we think so. You probably will, too.
Our little play on our Mugshots page – if you missed it, check it out here – was one that we were a little concerned about presenting to our community. We received some blowback when our actual Mugshot page debuted in January, so we didn’t know how the community would take it if we switched out those book-in mugshots with ones of the animals that have been “booked-in” to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County.
To put it mildly, we were on tenterhooks last Friday, fingers crossed that our joke would be well accepted. Then, finally, the ball started rolling. We posted the “Mugshots” page to Facebook and Twitter and watched as the numbers grew. To give you a little context, the Facebook ‘share’ numbers doubled from the 160s to 330s within a five-minute span. As of Monday, the page had been shared a total of 2,668 times.
What does all this mean? Well, after we put a call in to the humane society, we found out that two dogs were adopted specifically because the families saw them on the page.
Two-year-old Faith, a boxer mix, had been overwhelmed at the shelter. When the humane society’s worker brought her out to have her picture taken for this special project, Faith was clearly excited to be outside – despite the rain – but she was a little apprehensive and shyly watched our photographer.
Faith’s adoption story is a little bit of a funny one. Apparently, her adopter was told that one of his cousins appeared on our Mugshots page. When he went to check it out, 
he found instead a listing of 41 cats and dogs – one of which looked like his parents’ dog. The rest, as they say, is history.
Then there was three-month-old Wimpy Wilson, a tiny shepherd mix, who seemed to be afraid of everything, but was still willing to give it a chance. As the humane society stated, Wilson just needed an owner who could help build up his courage.
Because of all those shares and you guys spreading the word, this sweet girl and almost-brave little guy found their fur-ever homes. Thank you, Crawford County.
