The 2014 edition of Buckeye Boys State included 10 young men from Crawford County who will be entering their senior year of high school.
Sam VanVoorhis and Hobe Cotsamire of Bucyrus; Seth Ollis, Karsen Kaple, Austin Wurm, and Tim Showman of Buckeye Central; Hunter Starkey, Colton Guinther, and Nathan Kemper of Colonel Crawford; and Nathan Coffman of Crestline took part in the event held June 8 through 15 at Bowling Green State University.
At Boys State, young men learn about city, county, and state government through a non-partisan objective education approach.
According to the Buckeye Boys State Facebook page, Ollis was elected to the positions of city auditor and to the state board of education. Wurm served as a county commissioner. Cotsamire was mayor and school board member. Starkey was a city law director. Guinther served on a school board and Kemper clerk of courts.
Buckeye Boys State is the largest Boys State organization in the country and is sponsored in Ohio by the Ohio American Legion.
