Winter is providing a perfect time for the Lowe-Volk Astronomy Club to break out its telescopes to check out the Andromeda Galaxy.

The Astronomy Club, along with the Crawford Park District, will host a Night Sky Program at 6 p.m. on Dec. 30 at the Lowe-Volk Park Nature Center. Visitors can bring their own telescopes or allow the volunteers to assist with those provided. Targets for this season are the Andromeda Galaxy, which is 2.5 million light years away, and the huge clouds of molecular gas and dust known as the Bok Clouds, which block starlight behind them.

If the skies are cloudy, the program will take place indoors to view astronomy videos.

Lowe-Volk Park is located three miles north of U.S. 30. For more information contact the Crawford Park District at 419-683-9000. Look for more information on other programs offered by the Crawford Park District by visiting www.crawfordparkdistrict.org or their Facebook page.
