TIFFIN, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—On May 7th, 2024, authorities from the Tiffin Police Department and the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a threatening note discovered at Calvert High School, situated at 152 Madison St, Tiffin, Seneca County, Ohio.
The note alluded to the presence of a gun within the school premises and threatened harm to individuals.
In response, school administration immediately initiated a soft lockdown while law enforcement secured the building.
Subsequently, school officials and staff collaborated with law enforcement to evacuate all students before closing the school for the day. Following a thorough search of the premises, no weapon was found.
Officers commend the Calvert High School administration for their prompt and cautious response, prioritizing the safety of all students and staff during this alarming situation. Their swift cooperation and decisive actions were essential in maintaining order and facilitating the police intervention.
Throughout the investigation, detectives carefully examined surveillance footage from the area where the note was located. Interviews with student witnesses helped narrow down the time frame to a few minutes when the note was left.
Utilizing surveillance footage, law enforcement was able to identify a potential suspect. Moreover, a previous incident that occurred approximately three weeks prior was revisited, leading to the same individual becoming the focus of that investigation as well.
The diligent efforts of the Tiffin Police Criminal Division were pivotal in swiftly identifying a person of interest. Their meticulous investigation ensured all leads were pursued, ultimately resulting in a resolution.
The case was referred to the Seneca County Prosecutor’s Office and presented to a Grand Jury on June 6th, 2024.
An indictment was issued for Rhonda A. Huffman, aged 47, of Tiffin, Ohio. Huffman, who had been employed as a teacher at Calvert Catholic Schools since 2018, was placed on administrative leave by the school administration following her identification as the primary person of interest in the investigation.
On June 10th, 2024, Huffman was served with a summons on indictment and is scheduled to make an initial appearance in Seneca County Common Pleas Court in the near future.
