BUCYRUS—A 17-year-old Bucyrus teen who is under investigation for the mutilation of a dog has withdrawn from Pioneer Career and Technology Center in Shelby.
The minor, whose name has not been released, allegedly hit a lost dog on his way to school on January 14th. The teen and a friend allegedly retrieved the dog after school and then decapitated the animal. They took videos and pictures and posted them on social media.
According to sources, Greg Nickoli, Superintendent of Pioneer, contacted the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department when they became aware of the video and pictures circulating on social media. Sources released this statement from Nickoli:
“We contacted the authorities, who were already aware of and investigating the incident by that time,” Nickoli said. “We were then contacted by administrators at Bucyrus High School and spoke to the student and family by phone. The student has since withdrawn from school.”
Crawford County Now broke this story along with an offer of assistance issued by PETA. Nickoli confirmed that he received the letter from PETA, who offered their curriculum on kindness toward animals to all Crawford County schools:
“We will review their materials and work to integrate their concepts wherever appropriate,” Nickoli said.
The case remains under investigation. The owners of the dog have been notified. Crawford County Now will continue to follow this developing story.
