Thursday was the annual National Day of Prayer and Bucyrus citizens and city officials took time out of their schedules to do just that.

More than 50 prayer warriors came out to Bucyrus City Hall for a special prayer meeting Thursday evening. Salvation Army Captain Kathy Dorchak was one of those in attendance.

“But what really blessed my heart was the time when they had the prayer vigil for the four men that were… you know,” Dorchak said. “I was so blessed when the mayor prayed and the chief (of police prayed). It blessed my heart, you know it really did. This town is just so beautiful, it really is.”

Those prayers were on behalf of the country, city government, city officials, civil workers, schools, churches and families.

“I attend Father Heart’s Healing Center Church and I pray for the city,” said Debra Amos. “I just think that everybody should be one and Outreach is good and pray for families and that’s about it.”

Besides a morning event sponsored by the Bucyrus Ministerial Fellowship, Bucyrus Mayor Jeff Reser hosted the community’s inaugural Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast at Holy Trinity. Proceeds from the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast went to BORN – Bucyrus Outreach and Restoration Network.

Congressman Jim Jordan was at Holy Trinity for the Prayer Breakfast there. The keynote speaker was Bucyrus Victim’s Advocate Maggie Maloy.

Maloy is a Galion High School graduate. While in high school Maloy was attacked and shot. In college she was severely injured in an automobile accident, but continued to persevere both as a student and an athlete. In 2002 she received the first-ever NCAA Inspiration Award and in 2003 she was also awarded the Courageous Student-Athlete Giant Steps Award.

Maloy traveled the country to talk about overcoming adversities and violence as a survivor and not as a victim. More recently she began traveling with the Global Institute of Healing alternatives for Victimization and Trauma. This spring Maloy was appointed by Gov. John Kasich to the Amber Alert Advisory Committee.
