Syngenta, in partnership with cooperator Greg Hartschuh, recently harvested NK soybean and Golden Harvest corn plots in northwest Crawford County. The results were indicative of the success farmers are seeing with Syngenta seeds across the country.
The NK soybean plot, planted May 17, was located on variable soils with medium texture. The beans, which followed a corn crop, were planted at a population of 165,000. Minimum tillage was done. Twelve NK varieties were in the plot lineup, with maturities from 2.4 to 3.5. The plot range was 58.3 bushels per acre to 80.5 bushels per acre, with an average of 64.4 bushels per acre. The NK 24-K2 variety won the plot, yielding over 80 bushels per acre. All beans were Roundup Ready 2 beans, treated with CruiserMaxx with Vibrance, Syngenta’s standard treatment.
On the corn side, the winning hybrid of Golden Harvest G11U58 E-Z Refuge yielded over 241 bushels per acre. The plot low was 164 bushels per acre, and the plot average was 213 bushels per acre. DeKalb competitor products came in on average 18.5 bushels per acre less than the winning Golden Harvest entries. The corn was planted at a population of 35,000 on variable soils with medium textures. The plot was planted May 9 and harvested November 5. The previous crop was soybeans; minimum tillage was done on the plot. The Golden Harvest plot lineup included Syngenta traits such as E-Z Refuge (refuge in a bag with two modes of action against corn rootworm), Agrisure Viptera (controls 14 above- and below-ground pests), Agrisure 3000GT (triple stack), and Agrisure Artesian (water optimization.) All Golden Harvest corn was treated with CruiserMaxx Corn, while competitor products were treated with Poncho.
