Never let it be said that a grandparent doesn’t understand the value of sharing an important moment with their grandchildren.
When it came time to be sworn in as Bucyrus City Council members, John Walker and Wanda Sharrock both took advantage of the opportunity to share the experience with their grandchildren. Walker was joined by his four grandsons and Sharrock her two grandchildren when Municipal Court Judge Sean Leuthold swore them in to their offices Monday night. Family members of the other councilmembers also filled the large Council Chambers for the event.
“I think it’s an honor to be able to serve the people of the community,” said Sharrock, “and I hope that I live up to their expectations and that we do things to help the City of Bucyrus move forward.”
This will be the first time Sharrock has served on City Council. She hopes to help the Council look at ways for the city to move forward and bring more stability to jobs in the area.
With her grandchildren at her side for the occasion, it’s no wonder Sharrock added that she wanted to “give our young people a reason to want to grow up in Bucyrus and live in Bucyrus and feel safe in Bucyrus.”
Also sworn in during the ceremony were Council President Sis Love, City Treasurer Jane Cremeans, 1st Ward Council member Bruce Truka, 2nd Ward Council member Monica Sack, 3rd Ward Council member William O’Rourke, 4th Ward Council member Steve Pifer, and Council-at-Large members Richard Rockwell Jr., Walker and Sharrock. Sharrock took a seat filled by outgoing Council member Dan Wirebaugh.
