BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—On Monday, October 13, 2025, at approximately 9:40 AM, Bucyrus Elementary School instituted lockdown procedures after an unidentified male left a suspicious item near the school playground.
The situation prompted an immediate response from School Resource Officer (SRO) Seif and school officials to ensure the safety of the students.
Upon investigation, the suspicious item was found to be an empty tin container, alleviating initial concerns. However, to confirm whether there was any ongoing threat to the school, law enforcement personnel sought to identify the individual responsible for leaving the item. They released available video footage to the public, seeking assistance in the matter.
A nearby resident later provided additional camera footage, enabling officers to positively identify the male as a local individual well-known in the community for frequently walking through the area.
Officials stated that there is currently no belief that the individual had any intention to cause harm. Since no formal charges have been filed, the individual’s identity will remain undisclosed.
The Bucyrus Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety of all students and staff in collaboration with Bucyrus City Schools.
