Marion County Sheriff Tim Bailey says the man charged in two Ashland murders and suspected of two others in Richland County, has confessed to killing a woman in Marion.
The sheriff said 40-year-old Shawn Grate told investigators he killed a woman selling magazines sometime between 2003 and 2005. The woman’s remains were found in 2007 and have yet to be identified.
Grate, who once served time in the Crawford County jail for domestic violence, has been charged in the deaths of two woman in Ashland and kidnapping another.
Grate was arrested last week after a woman called 911 and said she was being held inside a home.
Police then found the remains of two other women. Authorities say Grate later led them to a third body in Richland County.
Authorities in Richland County have also reopened the case of Rebecca Leicy, whose body was found in March of 2015.
