BUCYRUS — Crime has not been furloughed, and law enforcement has proved essential personnel as a Bucyrus man was arrested Monday afternoon after a brief foot chase with Bucyrus Police Department officers.
Jesse R. Dye, 33, most recently of Bucyrus was arrested in the 200 block of E. Rensselaer St. near the Bucyrus Salvation Army after a brief chase beginning near the Family Dollar parking lot on Lane Street.
Dye was the focus of an investigation that began when he left his car in the parking lot of a local radio station and entered the business with a juvenile boy claiming his brakes were not working and he would return for the vehicle a later time.

Eyewitnesses said Dye appeared sweatier than the weather would cause, and the vehicle was found to be backed into a parking space between two other vehicles. Both caused suspicion to Dye’s story and a Bucyrus Police Department officer responded to the scene.
The vehicle was found to have fictious tags on license plates registered to a deceased individual and a reportedly large amount of alcohol, according to the BPD report.
After reviewing security camera footage and seeing the vehicle, Dye was recognized as a suspect in a credit card theft under investigation Monday morning.

After the vehicle was towed for parking in a private lot, Dye returned with two juveniles and was seen walking in an alley in the area of East Rensselaer Street.
When the officer contacted Dye near the Family Dollar, he ran north through residential properties and was apprehended in a grass lot near the Salvation Army. The man attempted to throw a bag onto a nearby roof, but it slid down the angled roof and fell near the man’s feet.
The BPD K-9 unit arrived as backup. The K-9 was not deployed, however the responding officer assisted in Dye’s arrest.
According to an officer on scene, a needle and suspected drug paraphernalia were found in a bag Dye was carrying and he was making suicidal threats and being disorderly.

He was charged with a fifth-degree felony charge for receiving stolen property, a first-degree misdemeanor charge for theft less than $1,000 and two second-degree misdemeanors for possession of drug abuse instruments and resisting arrest.
Upon further investigation, Dye was found to be wanted out of West Virginia for felony warrants for probation violations on original charges for burglary and faces local felony charges for the credit card theft.
Dye was taken to the Crawford County Justice Center to await extradition.
The credit card theft remains under investigation.
