BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Chaz Eric Akers, a 39-year-old man, is now behind bars at the Crawford County Jail, following his arrest for allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading authorities on a high-speed chase on New Year’s Day.

Akers faces several serious charges, including three counts of felony failure to comply, one count of felony breaking and entering, and one count of theft without consent.

He is accused of stealing a 2024 Dodge Ram pickup truck, sparking a high-speed pursuit that nearly extended into Marion County. During the chase, three law enforcement cruisers sustained damage.

The pursuit came to an end when Akers reached a dead end on Olentangy Road in Crawford County, at which point he surrendered to police.

He was then transported to a Columbus hospital for treatment of his injuries before being booked into the Crawford County Jail on Monday evening.

As of now, Akers has yet to make his initial court appearance regarding bond matters. Crawford County Now will continue to provide updates on this developing story.
