MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—With the current school year nearing its end, Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC) is encouraging individuals interested in substitute teaching to prepare now for opportunities in the upcoming school year. MOESC is seeking substitute teachers for various school districts in the region.
Substitute teachers are crucial for maintaining consistent education for students. Their presence prevents full-time teachers from having to sacrifice planning time to cover classes, which can negatively impact lesson preparation and student learning.
Area school districts have the flexibility to employ substitute teachers with varying levels of education, including those holding an associate degree, Pre-Service Permit, high school diploma, or GED. Each local Board of Education has the authority to set its own educational requirements for substitute teachers through a resolution. Interested candidates should contact the specific district(s) where they wish to work to understand their requirements.
To work in MOESC’s client districts, applicants must submit a Mid-Ohio ESC Substitute Teachers application. New substitute teacher applicants are required to schedule an appointment to submit their application. MOESC has waived the application fee for the 2025-2026 school year. Candidates must also possess a current and valid BCI/FBI background check. Fingerprinting for the background check is available at the Mid-Ohio ESC office for a fee.
After applying with MOESC, candidates need to apply for a substitute teacher license through the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce, unless they already hold a current teaching license or Pre-Service permit. It is important to note that this step should only be completed after the application process with Mid-Ohio ESC to avoid application decline.
