Susan M. Campbell was a woman who loved her community and even 17th years after her passing, continues to give back to that community.

Sue was born in Bucyrus to Pete and Wilma Richardson. As a graduate of Wynford High School, she continued her studies at Findlay College and Bowling Green State University. Mrs. Campbell worked at Colonel Crawford Schools for 28 years as a teacher, coach and finally a guidance counselor.

susan%20campbell%20pictureShe was also a member of the Colonel Crawford Lions Club and the first adviser for the Colonel Crawford Leo Club. Sue and her husband, Chuck, had two children, Aaron and Brooke, both graduates of Colonel Crawford High School. Sue passed away in 1997 after a year and a half battle with cancer.

The Campbell Scholarship was started to honor Susan’s commitment to the importance of community service. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to two graduating seniors of Colonel Crawford High School who have exhibited high academic standards and a strong commitment to community service as they pursue their goal of a post-secondary education. To date, the scholarship has given away a total of $42,000.

This scholarship is funded entirely by donations from the Campbell/Richardson family, proceeds from the Col. Crawford Lions Club Pancake Breakfast, the Col. Crawford Leos Club, Col. Crawford staff members and miscellaneous donations. More information about this and other area scholarships can be found online at www.cfcrawford.org.

On Saturday, October 11, 2014, the Colonel Crawford Lions Club will hold their 19th annual Pancake and Sausage breakfast at the William Crawford Intermediate School Cafetorium. This fundraising event will start at 7 a.m. and run until 1 p.m. Patrons will receive grilled sausage provided by Link’s Country Meats, coffee, milk and/or orange juice, and all you can eat Sweet Cream Pancakes: regular, blueberry or chocolate chip, with a variety of toppings. Carry out is available.

Cost of the event is $5 at the door or you can purchase your ticket for $4 in advance from any Colonel Crawford Lions Club member. Kids 5 and under are free! If you would like to donate but are unable to attend the breakfast, monetary donations can also be made the day of the event, or to any Colonel Crawford Lions Club member.
