Steve’s Obituary from Snyder Funeral Homes:
Steven “Steve” Lee Barr, age 49, of Caledonia, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Friday evening, August 9, 2024, following a more than year long battle with colon cancer.
On January 8, 1975, Steve was born in Galion, Ohio, a son of Floyd Raymond and Louise Ann (Burkhart) Barr. He graduated from River Valley High School in the Class of 1993.
A few years after high school, Steve began working for Pillsbury in Martel. He was there for 11 years before an injury forced him to look in another direction. While working there, he met the love of his life, Stephanie Ann Bloomfield. Their parents set them up on a blind date, and they soon realized they were meant to be. They were married on June 23, 2001, at Edison Methodist Church, and shared the last 23 wonderful years as husband and wife.
In 2007, Steve began working at American Shoe Service – Red Wing Shoe Store in Bucyrus, where he became an excellent cobbler. He took pride in his craft and became known for his exceptional skill. People from all over shipped him footwear to be fixed. In 2018, Steve and Stephanie took over ownership of the business. It wasn’t just about selling boots. He often helped those in need without cost and minister to many from the fitting stool.
A devoted member of Storyside Church in Bellville since 2015, Steve was actively involved in various ministries. He served in the parking lot, on the safety team, prayer team, in the WOW class, and led a small group called Reel Men. His entire family often served as ushers, sharing their faith and love throughout the church. Steve was honored to be part of a weekly call with men all over the world. Men on a Mission was a pivotal point in his relationship with God and gave him encouragement, strength and wisdom during these last few years. These men and their faith have been a constant inspiration to his family. Steve’s faith was central to his life. He enjoyed reading his Bible and doing devotionals.
Steve found great solace in the outdoors when hunting and fishing. Some of his favorite places were in Delaware or at Kokosing Lake. He often said he felt closest to God when in the woods or other places in nature.
Steve will be remembered as a dedicated, loving, and selfless man who was genuine, honest, and kind-hearted. He cherished every moment spent with his family, helping customers at his shop, being in nature and worshiping his Lord and Savior.
Left to cherish Steve’s memory are his wife, Stephanie; three children: Parker, Gabriella and Ethan Barr; parents, Floyd and Louise Barr, all of Caledonia; three siblings: Kevin (Amy) Barr of Seville, Marsha (Mark) Garverick of Galion, Larry (Mandy) Barr of Caledonia; brother-in-law, Trent (Becky) Bloomfield of Findlay; mother-in-law, LuAnn Bloomfield of Mount Gilead; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Kermit and Agnes Burkhart, Floyd I. Barr, Hazel Helena Barr; great grandparents: Emma and Ore Burkhart, Mary Elizabeth and David Tracht, Mina Hart; father-in-law, Steve Bloomfield; and sister-in-law, Susan Barr.
Steve’s family will greet friends from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Storyside Church, 541 St. Rt. 97 W, Bellville, OH 44813. Services to honor and celebrate his life will begin there at 2 p.m. with Pastor Micah Pelkey officiating. If you own a pair of Red Wing Shoes, please wear them to celebrate Steve.
