BUCYRUS—At Thursday night’s Bucyrus board of education meeting, Superintendent Matt Chrispin gave the board his opinion on state testing for the school year.
“I think we need to test, we already have language out there that the testing results and growth measures are not going to be held against the teachers and we are not allowed to use that data for the evaluation piece, so if it’s as bad as everybody thinks, it’s no harm no foul,” Chrispin said.
The second reason Chrispin gave for being in favor of testing was the need for baseline data and to see where the students are. If the schools don’t test this year, the next set of data to see where students are would be in 2022.
Board members Randy Blankenship and Christa Graves gave an update to the board on the athletic council, stating that they’ve now held two meetings and that Lisa Sharp was appointed to be the athletic booster’s president.
Yard signs for senior athletes were distributed on Tuesday, and there will be another chance to order coming up.
The public meeting for the discussion into whether or not to keep the “Redmen” name will be set soon, and the school will officially announce the date and location once that information is decided upon.
“I just want it to go away, whatever it is, let’s get it done and move on to educating our kids and more important things,” Blankenship said.
The next regular board meeting is March 18 at 5:30 p.m.
Meetings are being held in person but will still be broadcasted on YouTube to any who wishes to view the meeting. The link to view meetings is on the school’s website.
