GALION—The Northmor Board of Education held their monthly meeting on Tuesday evening.

At Northmor’s graduation ceremony on June 5, there will be an honorary diploma for Colby Hildreth, who tragically passed away after a battle with acute myeloid leukemia at fourteen years old in 2017.

The school will be live streaming the elementary awards ceremonies on the last day of school for any family members who would like to watch. K-2 will be in the morning, and 3-6 will be in the afternoon.

State testing numbers were presented to the board for math, science, and social studies.

For mathematics, 57 percent of third graders were proficient, 70 percent of fourth graders were proficient, 51 percent of fifth graders were proficient, 67 percent of sixth graders were proficient, 40 percent of seventh graders were proficient, 54 percent of eighth graders were proficient, 71 percent of Algebra I students were proficient, and 70 percent of Geometry students were proficient. All but the third, fifth, and seventh graders were above the state proficiency standard. State proficiency standards for third graders is 59 percent, fifth grade is 54 percent, and seventh grade is 46 percent.

For science, 75 percent of fifth graders were proficient, 79 percent of eighth graders were proficient, and 79 percent of biology students were proficient. All were above the state proficiency standard.

For social studies, 77 percent of American History students were proficient, and 85 percent of American Government students were proficient. Both were above the state proficiency standards.

In 2017, the state mandated that all juniors needed to take the ACT. In Northmor’s 2022 graduating class, 71 students took the ACT and averaged 16.1 in English, 18.9 in math, 18.6 in reading, and 18.7 in science. The composite average was 18.1. The highest possible ACT score is a 36.

There will be new CCP classes added next year: human bio in the fall, forensics in the spring, computer apps, and Intro to I.T.
