The Ohio State Highway Patrol is announcing it will man and operate an OVI checkpoint somewhere in Crawford County on Friday evening. The exact location of the checkpoint will be announced Friday morning.

Bucyrus Post Commander Lt. Michael Vinson says that OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove dangerous drivers from the roadways.

The low-manpower OVI checkpoint is being funded by federal grants.

Last year in Ohio there were more than 12,000 OVI-related crashes which killed 431 people.
