BUCYRUS ­— The Bucyrus Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a double-fatality crash that occurred at approximately 7:19 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Ohio 103 and Ross Road west of Chatfield.

According to a news release from the State Patrol, 55-year-old Clifford C. Alt of Tiro was traveling westbound on Ohio 103 in a 1998 Freightliner dump truck, when he struck a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling northbound on Ross Road that failed to yield to a stop sign at the intersection of Ohio 103.

The driver of the Chevrolet Trailblazer was identified as 43-year-old Tonya S. Laferty of Bucyrus. The front seat passenger in the Trailblazer was identified as 40-year-old Kisten L. Singer also of Bucyrus.

Upon arrival at the scene, troopers found the Trailblazer partially pinned underneath the dump truck with both females entrapped. Both were unresponsive and were freed with the Jaws of Life. Laferty and Singer both were pronounced dead at the scene by the Crawford County Coroner’s Office.

Alt was airlifted to Grant Medical Center, Columbus for incapacitating injuries.

Neither alcohol nor narcotics were determined to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.

The Lykens Twp. Fire and Rescue, Chatfield Twp. Fire and Rescue, Life Support Team EMS, Crawford County EMA, Crawford County ODOT, MedFlight and Knecht’s Towing assisted troopers at the scene.
