The Bucyrus Secondary School vocal music department is now selling tickets to the spring musical, “The Wiz.” Performances will take place at 7 p.m. March 21 and 22, as well as 2 p.m. March 23 in the BSS Little Theatre. Tickets are $4 for students/children and $6 for adults and can be bought in advance or at the door. “The Wiz” was last staged at Bucyrus High School in 1986 and featured Bucyrus alum and current Fox 28 meteorologist Marshall McPeek, who played the part of the Wiz.
This year’s musical features 62 students from grades six through twelve, including three student directors – Abigail Gulley, Student Producer/Student Dance Instructor; Kaylee Lewis, Stage and House Manager; Levi Vermillion, Staging Assistant and Cast Member. Having these students in leadership roles has helped Director of Choirs Nickie French, Mrs. Sara Grote and Mrs. Karolyn Rebon, the adult directors of the show, immensely.
“At rehearsal, we’ve been able to have several different things going on at one time,” French said. “It’s just great to be able to have responsible students in these new leadership positions. They’re doing a terrific job!”
In addition to the students involved in the production, there are several non-students assisting in the show. BHS alumni Branden Keener, David Holdcraft, Jesse Cabell and Brandon Buck are working on the show, along with Elementary School music teacher Sarah Martin, her husband and son, and high school Spanish teacher Ann Shanda.
Dinner theater tickets for the March 22 show are $15 and must be pre-ordered by Friday, March 14. Dinner will begin at 5:00 p.m. followed by the show at 7 p.m. Tickets will include the following:
- A special dinner of Italian chicken breast, marsala steak medallions, cheese ravioli, green beans, salad, dinner roll, dessert, beverages
- A special performance by the Bucyrus High School concert choir
- Special activities including interactive, audience participation games and contests
- Entry to the show
“I hope parents and community members will come out and show their support as everyone involved has worked diligently on this musical,” French said. “They’re very enthusiastic, and I know they would appreciate the support.”
Please note that show tickets, including dinner theater tickets, are reserved seating only. Tickets may be purchased by contacting French at 419-562-7721 ext. 4019 or email nfrench@bucyrusschools.org.
