The Woodlawn United Methodist Church will be hosting Devon McDonald at the Men’s Prayer Breakfast on June 14.
The prayer breakfast will take place at 7 a.m. in the Bucyrus Community Hospital cafeteria.
McDonald has served as the President and CEO of Sports World Ministries since 2011, driving the mission to encourage positive choices while challenging today’s youth with a message of hope. Although he now serves as President, Devon still constantly travels sharing his personal story with countless youth, as he did for nine years prior to his presidency. In his words, “The fact that we can touch young lives with a message of hope drives my passion to serve at Sports World.”
Prior to serving at Sports World, Mr. McDonald played linebacker for three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and one season with the Arizona Cardinals.
Devon McDonald, a native of Jamaica, moved to the US when he was only 11 years old. Mr. McDonald’s skills and hard work on the football field led him to play college football at the University of Notre Dame. He assisted his team in winning a National Championship in 1988, was team captain in 1992 and Co-Most Valuable Player in the 1993 Cotton Bowl. The Indianapolis Colts in the 1993 NFL Draft drafted him. In his rookie season, Colts fan honored Mr. McDonald as the “Unsung Hero of the Year” and in 1994 was selected Special Team Player of the Year. After 9 years in the NFL including playing Arena Football for the Tampa Bay Storm, Mr. McDonald retired from playing football. His twin brother Ricardo McDonald played linebacker for the Cincinnati Bengals and Chicago Bears.
Devon McDonald holds a Bachelor’s Degree in American Studies from the University of Notre Dame, is an Ordained Minister and is marred to Shereasher. They have two daughters Jazzmine and Rachael. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf and fishing.
